OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 15, at a launch event in China. The new device brings a powerful processor, a larger battery, and a refreshed design, though it also includes some unexpected changes that may divide fans.

A global release is expected to follow soon, with reports suggesting a launch event could take place on November 13.

Major Performance Upgrade

The OnePlus 15 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the company’s most advanced processor to date. This is the same next-generation chip expected to power upcoming Android flagships, promising significant gains in speed and efficiency.

The phone comes with up to 16GB of RAM and a new “Glacier VC” vapor cooling system designed to maintain stable performance during heavy gaming and multitasking sessions.

Huge 7,300mAh Battery with Super-Fast Charging

Battery life is one of the standout features of the OnePlus 15. The handset includes a 7,300mAh battery, making it one of the largest in any mainstream flagship phone.

Despite the increased capacity, charging speeds remain impressive: 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging are both supported. This means users can expect a full charge in well under 30 minutes, depending on conditions.

165Hz Display with Lower Resolution

The display on the OnePlus 15 combines high performance with a controversial downgrade. It features a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother motion than most rivals.

However, resolution has been reduced to 1272 x 2772 pixels, lower than the OnePlus 13’s QHD+ panel. OnePlus says this trade-off was necessary to achieve the higher refresh rate, though it remains to be seen how noticeable the difference is in daily use.

Hasselblad Partnership Dropped

In a surprising move, the OnePlus 15 marks the end of OnePlus’s long-running camera collaboration with Hasselblad. The new device instead relies on an in-house imaging system.

The phone includes three 50MP rear cameras — a wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom — along with a 32MP front-facing camera. While the hardware appears similar to the previous generation, OnePlus says the new imaging engine will improve color accuracy and image processing.

Refreshed Design and Improved Durability

The OnePlus 15 sports a new look this year, replacing the circular camera module with a square-shaped housing. It comes in Sand Dune, Misty Purple, and Absolute Black color options.

The device is slightly shorter, wider, and thinner than the OnePlus 13, measuring 161.4 x 76.7 x 8.1mm. It’s also rated IP68 and IP69K for water and dust resistance — meaning it can handle both submersion and high-pressure water jets.

Outlook

The OnePlus 15 introduces meaningful upgrades in performance, endurance, and design while making a few controversial changes to its display and camera setup. Still, with its huge battery, powerful chip, and ultra-fast charging, the OnePlus 15 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive Android flagships heading into 2025.
